Incoming Manchester United chief Louis van Gaal could bring Holland international Bruno Martins Indi with him to Old Trafford, according to reports from The Mirror.

The powerful Feyenoord ace starred for the Oranje boss during their World Cup qualification campaign, and is widely thought of as one of the Eredivisie’s finest centre-backs.

Van Gaal is expected to take over at United when his deal to manage the Dutch side expires after this summer’s showpiece tournament, and he has set about solving the club’s defensive issues upon his arrival.

Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand will both be off in the coming months, leaving the experienced coach short of top-class cover at the back.

Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are all available, but none of the trio have truly shone in recent years.

Martins Indi is seen as a good option by van Gaal, who is keen to partner him with another target in the shape of Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.

The 22-year-old is rumoured to be ready to leave Rotterdam for a bigger club, and may well jump at the chance to link up with his national coach at United.
