Alex Buttner isn't a name Manchester United fans will remember with too much fondness, as the left-back is regarded as one of the worst signings during Sir Alex Ferguson's long tenure at the charge at Old Trafford.

Signed in 2012, Buttner left English football just two-years later after being sold by Louis Van Gaal and is remembered by many as a flop.

However, the player himself has argued his case to that claim by trolling Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard- which is certainly likely to go down well in the red corners of Manchester.

Speaking to TeleSport, Buttner said:

”I hear people talking on TV that I have only played a handful of games. But in the case of Manchester United I played a lot more games for them that I could only dream of."

“My adventure at Manchester United was not a failure. I am champion of England, who can say that? Not even Steven Gerrard did that.”

Gerrard's failure to win a league title in his career is the one black mark on his exceptional service to Liverpool but it's fair to say he will be regarded higher than Buttner forever.
