Manchester United are desperate to keep Danny Welbeck at the club despite interest from Hull, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 23-year-old England international was heavily linked with a £14m move to the KC Stadium last week, with Steve Bruce rumoured to be keen on him.

There was some speculation that Welbeck would be free to leave for such a price, with the versatile attacker behind Javier Hernandez, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie in Louis van Gaal’s striker pecking order.

But now it’s understood that United are not ready to sell, with the academy graduate still in their first-team plans.

Welbeck has spent much of his time in the Red Devils’ first-team in a wide position, but with their new 3-4-1-2 formation such a role is not available to him, which has led to doubts surrounding how much game time he will get.

Everton were linked with a move for his services over the summer, but a swoop failed to materialise.
