Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Atletico Madrid’s Arda Turan by offering the La Liga champions £16million and Shinji Kagawa for the Turkish international.

According to the Daily Express, new Old Trafford boss Louis Van Gaal has turned his attention to Atletico midfielder after seemingly missing out on Juventus’ Arturo Vidal.

Vidal has travelled with the Serie A giants to their pre-season tour to Jakarta, which suggests he will not be signing for United this summer.

So Van Gaal has now identified Turan as the next best thing and is prepared to offer United flop Kagawa as a deal sweetener.

The Japanese international is not seen as an important part of United’s new look team for the coming season and is expected to leave the club before the end of  the transfer window this month.

And with the La Liga side reportedly already interested in the midfielder, it is believed United are confident that a deal can be struck.

The move could see United make a significant saving on the £47m they were prepared to pay for Vidal’s services.

A flop? Where were you last season? CL final, La Liga winner. What an ignorant and ill-judged statement from a mickey mouse publication.

Turns out it’s your own statement that’s ignorant and ill-judged. Oopsie.

Well it transpires that just because you have the inflated sense of self-worth to include letters after your surname on a football blog no less, that it doesn’t necessarily mean you can read…lol

But James, in relation to your actual blog, which I do enjoy, as a UTD fan, I think I would still rather see Vidal, even at the much larger dent to the Glaziers wallet…

Vidal would be a much better option, I agree. But Juventus don’t appear to be willing to budge, so LVG may be forced to settle for the next best thing.

This is in response to Sir Christopher Arnfield BA BSc, MBA, PGCE, King Emperor… (hence the letters after surname comment) not quite sure why I tagged it onto your post.

Yeah, but who knows to be honest. I read and have been reading so many conflicting articles on this, so you just don’t know…will not know until it either happens, or the window slams shut. I read just now for instance, that Vidal has sent a team of lawyers to try and push the deal through. If it is a definite non-starter, then sure, Turan is a pretty great back up plan…especially if UTD get Strootman in January…
