Manchester United are close to securing the signature of Daley Blind, with reports from De Telegraaf claiming that a £14.2m fee has been agreed with Ajax.

The classy left-back has been on the Red Devils’ radar for much of the summer after impressing under Louis van Gaal at the World Cup.

The now United coach made Blind a key member of his Oranje team, which ran all the way to a third place finish in Brazil.

Now it is understood that negotiations with Ajax have been successful, with the Dutch club having accepted an initial £14.2m offer.

The fee is set to increase with bonus payments, which may hinge on his appearances and part in any successes the Red Devils enjoy in the future.

Blind is, primarily, a left-sided defender, but his versatile nature saw him running the middle of the park at the Amsterdam ArenA last season.

He has also been talked about as a future centre-back, which is a position that LVG is short of cover for at United.

Van Gaal’s move for Blind has accelerated since it became clear top target Arturo Vidal will be staying at Juventus.
