Manchester United has interested Bayern Munich’s management team.

Rooney reportedly told team-mates a few weeks ago that he was keen to move to the Bundesliga with Bayern his preferred destination, but the Red Devils appeared to slam the door shut on any possible switch of clubs by insisting that he is not for sale.

But the shock news that Sir Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season has prompted further rumours that the England international is keen to quit the north-west giants and leave the Premier League.

Everton boss David Moyes seems certain to replace Fergie at United and there is history between the Scot and Rooney, who worked together at Goodison Park and, despite another denial that he is for sale, it may well be that Rooney’s time at the club is coming to an end.

Whether Bayern would try to sign him is another matter, with Robert Lewandowski and Luis Suarez also heavily linked with the club.
