The German international is a long term target for David Moyes, with Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke claiming the 23-year-old will break his silence over his future plans in the near future.
The playmaker has been out of action all season after picking up a back injury in August, but still has hopes of featuring for his country at the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
Moyes remains confident of landing the midfielder who is entering the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga giants, in a move that could see Shinji Kagawa move back in the opposite direction.
Dortmund remain desperate to keep hold of one of their prized assets, and Watzke is expecting a public announcement on his decision soon.
“On whether he will compete in the World Cup, I am not the one to give out reliable forecasts,” Watzke said.
“We will not speculate about when he will come back. We are convinced he will be healthy but we cannot measure this in terms of weeks or months.
“As for the contract, it will not be a long, dragged-out affair. I think it is not going to be more than a matter of weeks.”
