Manchester United are ready to launch a £15m offer for Daley Blind after missing out on Thomas Vermaelen, according to reports from The Mirror.

Louis van Gaal was understood to have made the former Arsenal captain his top target for the remainder of the summer, but it was announced yesterday that the Belgian is now a Barcelona player.

Although angered by the setback, the new Red Devils chief is ready to respond by launching a raid for Blind.

The versatile Dutchman starred in LVG’s Holland side at the World Cup, earning many plaudits for his composed displays.

He can play at centre-back or centre-midfield, although he is more comfortable in the left-hand side of the backline.

A £15m offer for the 24-year-old is set to be tabled in the coming days, with Ajax understood to be resigned to losing their star.

Blind himself has also opened the door to a move:

“What will I do when Louis van Gaal tells me he wants me to come to Manchester United? I will consider it.

“The World Cup has been a massive boost for my experience and I have made no secret that I will listen when a nice offer comes my way.”

Well, up to now Wooden Ed has managed to sign two players we have been interested in since the January transfer window. So his forte obviously isn’t speed. Consequently I wouldn’t hold my breath on this one.
I guess it’s only to be expected, after all, he is from Essex.
