Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes could make a move to the Premier League at the end of the season, with Manchester United reportedly weighing up an offer to sign him.

According to the Daily Express, Sir Alex Ferguson is not completely convinced with David de Gea’s performance and is thinking of swapping him for another Spaniard to guard the Old Trafford goal.

Victor Valdes has been subject to numerous rumours since his agents announced to FC Barcelona he would not sign a new contract with the club.

Among others, Arsenal have also been linked to the Spanish stopper, who is expected to be transferred in June as he will be a free agent in 2014.

Meanwhile, the Catalans have reportedly been considering Valdes’ replacement, with Premier League keepers Pepe Reina and David de Gea on their shortlist.

Despite some good performances, like last Wednesday at the Bernabeu, De Gea’s occasional mistakes and and hesitations could have made Fergie aware that he should be looking for a replacement for the young keeper.

A hypothetical return to Madrid – be it to again Atletico or neighbour Real – was mentioned first, but reports that Chelsea have joined the race for the Spaniard if the Blues allow Thibaut Courtois to stay out on loan for one more season have also surfaced.
