Manchester United face fight to land Serie A star

Several top clubs have joined Manchester United in the pursuit of Roma defender Mehdi Benatia, according to talkSPORT.

Benatia has been a standout performer for Roma this season, with the club only having conceded 18 Serie A goals so far – the lowest of figure of any top flight Italian team.

The 26-year-old only joined the club from Udinese last summer, but his agent Moussa Sissoko says that several top clubs will be hunting his signature at the end of the season.

Sissoko is quoted as saying on TMW: “He is fully mature – he is a rock in defence, unbeatable in the air, and has extraordinary technique and great human qualities.

“His future? The directors of Roma know that other big clubs are interested and watching. A meeting is planned with the club and we will see what will be his decision. Although today, he feels very, very well at Roma.”
United were interested in Benatia during his time at Udinese, and his form this season will no doubt have caught the clubs attention.

David Moyes has made a new centre back a priority signing, with club captain Nemenja Vidic having already agreed to join Inter Milan at the end of the season.
