Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has called on David Moyes to spend big to land Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani this summer.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Uruguayan star of late, with their Scottish manager rumoured to be plotting a radical overhaul of his underperforming squad.
Cavani is said to be unsettled at PSG despite having only moved to the Parc des Princes last year, after playing second fiddle to Zalatan Ibrahimovic.
The Enigmatic Swede has been the French champions’ main man this term, forcing the South American ace to play in slightly wider role than he is comfortable with.
This has led to talk that he is ready to move on, with speculation suggesting that his agent has been in contact with some of Europe’s top club sides.
Van Nistelrooy – who became a club idol as he helped United claim the Premier League title and the FA Cup in a five year spell at the club – believes that his former employers should do all they can to sign the unsettled Cavani:
“Cavani? I think he is a very good player,” he is quoted by The Express.
“In my view, he would be a very good signing, but he has also recently signed for a big team.
“It will be expensive. But there is also Falcao, he may be an option for a pure number nine, to score goals.
“I think that with Van Persie and Rooney, David Moyes needs more than just a big scorer in his team.”
