Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo

Manchester United are weighing up a summer move for wantaway Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Spanish ace is said to be keen to leave the Andalucian side after a disappointing 2012/13 left them in midtable obscurity and some distance from European qualification.

Although Sevilla do not need to sell – after allowing Jesus Navas to sign for Manchester City earlier this month – it is thought that they could be powerless to resist with the player keen on Champions League football.

Negredo netted 21 La Liga goals last season, making him the top-scoring Spanish player in the division, which has alerted a number of suitors.

Atletico Madrid are thought to have made their interest clear, but Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido says that another European side is interested.

Reports suggest that it could be either United or Arsenal, but with the Gunners closing in on Gonzalo Higuain the Premier League champions are the more likely candidates.

West Ham had made a £15m offer for the powerful striker, but with his desire or top level continental football a deal was seen as impossible.

United have been linked with a number of attackers of late, with the future of Wayne Rooney far from clear.

Could Alvaro Negredo be the perfect partner for Robin van Persie?
