Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes anyone who reckons the Premier League is the best in the world is talking ‘nonsense’, having watched Manchester United suffer a humiliating 2-0 defeat at the hands of Olympiakos, reports the Daily Mail.
United became the third English team in a week to lose the first leg of their last 16 clash 2-0, after delivering an awful performance in Greece.
The result comes after both Manchester City and Arsenal suffered 2-0 home defeats at the hands of Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively last week.
“I think we’re brainwashed by the Premier League,” Keane said.
“It’s not the best league in the world. Nonsense. It’s the best brand.
“Our teams have fallen behind the best European teams, United in particular.”
Keane also delivered a damming assessment of his former club’s performance against the Greek champions, claiming under-fire boss David Moyes will be ‘shocked’ by the performance of his players.
“I don’t think any of us predicted that,” he added.
“We weren’t sure about Olympiacos, but give them credit, they were technically better than United.
“There are a number of players who haven’t showed enough quality and there is a lack of confidence
“United need six top quality players with Vidic, Rio, Evra, Giggsy [all going], he needs to rebuild the club.
“Moyes will be shocked, he would expected good things with this squad, he’ll be shocked by lack of quality he’s working with.”
