Red Devils boss David Moyes is believed to be looking at potential replacements for current left-sided defender Patrice Evra, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
Although the veteran 32-year-old has admitted that he is happy to stay at Old Trafford beyond next summer, rumours linking him with a return to his homeland to play for either Paris Saint-Germain or Monaco have been rife.
Moyes was believed to have been eyeing Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw of Everton and Southampton respectively, but both of the players’ clubs are far from keen to sell.
Ghoulam has recently emerged as an alternative following some impressive displays in Ligue 1.
The 22-year-old Algerian international has developed into one of French football’s top defensive talents of late, attracting attention from across Europe.
As well as United, AC Milan are also believed to be watching the youngster.
Ghoulam is thought to be open to a big move, and claims that a switch to the Premier League champions would be one that interests him.
“Manchester United? You are always flattered when such a big club is linked with you but I do not want to dream, the reality is to give 100 per-cent for St Etienne and see what will happen next,” he said.
