David Moyes has set his sights on Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta, after being alerted to a contract dispute between the midfielder and his Nou Camp bosses, reports the Daily Mail.
Manchester United have made no secret of their desire to bring in a creative midfielder, and they do not come much better than the Spanish World Cup winner.
Moyes is carefully monitoring the situation at the Nou Camp, and could well be tempted into making a January bid that could lead to one of the most audacious transfers in Premier League history.
While it almost seems unthinkable for Iniesta to wear anything other than a Barcelona shirt, after more than a decade of glorious service to the Catalan giants, there is a genuine feeling in the Manchester United camp that a shock transfer could be on the cards.
There are increasing noises coming from Spain that suggest the midfielder is not happy with his current situation at the Nou Camp, and may well decide against signing a new contract.
Barcelona have attempted to get Iniesta to extend his current deal, which expires in 2015, but as of yet the two parties have remained stuck in negotiations.
It is understood Iniesta has concerns over the development of the team since the departure of Pep Guardiola, and is said to be still furious over the departure of physio Emili Ricart, who was sacked at the start of the season despite helping the Spaniard overcome a succession of leg muscle injuries.
