Manchester United are set to offer veteran defender Rio Ferdinand a new one year contract at Old Trafford.
Fellow United old boy Ryan Giggs was handed a new deal last week and is set to play his 1000th game for the Red Devils against Real Madrid in midweek.
Ferdinand’s future was in doubt at the start of the season after his niggling injuries seemed to be getting the better of him and he could not get his way back into Ferguson’s team.
However a much improved second half of the season has seen Ferdinand hit top form at the right time and earn himself an extension.
Roy Hodgson has not selected the former Leeds and West Ham defender in any of his England squads yet and it seems his international career is well and truly over.
Ferguson has been full of praise for his central defender and hopes he can continue it as United run away with the Premier League.
“I think he has had a great season,” Ferguson told The Sun.
“He has managed himself in the right way.”
