United made it nine victories from their last 10 league games with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford to remain seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but paid the price of captain Vidic and winger Young suffering knee injuries.
Although the knocks aren’t believed to be too serious, the news comes as a blow to Sir Alex Ferguson who has only just got Vidic back playing after the Serbian had hardly featured during the last 13 months due to two serious injuries.
Amid his return to the side, Vidic had this to say to MUTV a couple of weeks ago regarding his road to regaining full fitness.
“The doctor is managing the games [I can play]. Over the first two or three months I have to really look at the games I can play because sometimes I might have a reaction. This is a process I have to go through.”
It is possible that Ferguson would have opted to start the Liverpool game with Jonny Evans instead, however he picked up a hamstring injury ruling him out of the clash.
On the plus side for the United chief, he has recently seen the return to fitness of Shinji Kagawa, while Nani is also believed to be close which would cover the loss of Young.
Wayne Rooney is also back in training following his most recent spell on the sidelines.
