will soon be opening a £25million state-of-the-art Medical centre at Carrington to tackle the club’s continuing injury problems. Sportsmail have revealed that the Red Devils were the most injury-prone team in the Premier League last season and are currently without several first team players, most notably Nemanja Vidic.

English trio Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have all been sidelined this season with long-term injuries, however it is believed they are all close to match fitness and could return for United over the next few weeks.

A £13million re-development of Carrington will be combined with a five year deal with Toshiba to provide £12million in new medical equipment. The facility will have the capability to detect soft tissue injures before they happen, and provide effective screening against heart problems following Fabrice Muamba’s on-pitch cardiac arrest last season.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes the new medical advancements will help improve the club.

“This fantastic partnership will put us above most clubs in the world. But it is not just the supply of their medical systems, we're also sharing the experiences together and the new ideas to come out of it. We already have a fantastic medical staff and they will relish the challenge of working with Toshiba” said the United boss.

“Sometimes maybe the supporters don't see that. But we'll see the benefits and the players will appreciate it. This is fantastic progress.

“We made a couple of signings this summer but this is a big signing - probably the most important step forward this club has taken in a long, long time” added Ferguson.
