The Premier League champions had a £12million bid rejected by the Merseyside club earlier this month.
But new United manager David Moyes is set to make a new bid of £16m for the left-back. Baines was one of Moyes’ most crucial players when he managed the Toffees, and is possibly considered as Everton’s top player.
Chairman Bill Kenwright is unhappy that Moyes is trying to lure Baines away from Goodison Park. Kenwright enjoyed a terrific relationship with Moyes, but is now upset that the former Toffees boss is trying to steal away Everton’s prize asset.
To keep Baines at the club, it is thought that Kenwright will offer the left-back a new contract worth £70,000-a-week.
However, the Toffees chairman knows he may have to sell the defender, but is holding out for £20million for the Englishman as the wing-back has been one of their most creative players in recent seasons.
Moyes is hoping the attraction of playing Champions League football with the league champions will tempt Baines into handing in a transfer request, to push forward a transfer between the two sides.
Should Baines join United? Should Moyes be taking one of his former side’s best players?
