Manchester United could launch a summer move for Porto star Eliaquim Mangala after scouts from the club travelled to Portugal to watch him action over the weekend, according to reports from The Metro.
The Red Devils have been linked with the French centre-back for some time, and are understood to have been paying particularly close attention to him in recent weeks.
Representatives from United were in attendance for Porto’s 2-1 win over Gil Vicente, and are believed to have been impressed by the 23-year-old.
With Nemanja Vidic set to leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in just under six months’ time and Rio Ferdinand’s long-term future far from clear, David Moyes is thought to have made snapping up a new defender a priority.
The Scot has around £100m at his disposal for the next transfer window to rebuild his ailing squad, and is said to see Mangala as the ideal man to build his backline around.
The tough-tackling youngster is valued highly by Porto, who are unlikely to entertain offers below £30m.
Manchester City almost sealed a deal for Mangala last month, but their reluctance to meet his price tag eventually scuppered their hopes.
The Sky Blues may return in the summer with a fresh offer, while Chelsea have also been linked with him.
