Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet  is aware that he is being linked with Manchester United but insists he is happy at the Stadium of Light.

The Belgium website RTBF reported that last week the 24-year-old shot stopper was being courted by the Red Devils.

Mignolet has not heard of anything concrete about the possibility of a move to Old Trafford but insists that it is ‘nice’ to be mentioned alongside a club such as Manchester United.

“I have read the information (about Manchester United) on the internet, but I do not know," he told Belgian paper Nieuwsbald.

“This is obviously very nice to be linked with such a big city team, but for now, I feel good in Sunderland.”

Despite the link with one of the giants of world football, Mignolet also wanted to assure Sunderland fans that he was still committed to life at the Stadium of Light.

His agent Guy Vandersmissen was quick to back up the comments and revealed that there are negotiations about a new contract with the Black Cats.

“There is currently negotiating an extension with Sunderland. We'll see if we reached an agreement.

“Several journalists and coaches say he is now at the same level as Joe Hart.”

Mignolet moved to the North East of England in 2010 after joining from Sint-Truiden where he spent five years and has claimed the number one jersey after initial rivalries with Craig Gordon and Keiren Westwood.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill will not want his star keeper to leave the club but his Premier League rival Sir Alex Ferguson hopes the lure of Manchester United can work in the Scotsman's favour.
