According to a report from Spanish outlet Don Balon, Jose Mourinho is hoping to bring Barcelona playmaker Ivan Rakitic to Old Trafford.

What's the story?

With Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick all failing to become the perfect partner for Paul Pogba, Man United fans are hoping business can be done to bring new life to Mourinho's midfield.

According to the report from Spain, Mourinho has set his sights on Barcelona's Rakitic as the man who will bring the balance needed to his team.

It would be a sensational transfer and one that could cost Man United up to £35m.

Don Balon reckon Mourinho has recognised that Luis Enrique doesn't appreciate the central midfielder as much as he once did and could be available for a transfer.

Is he the one they've been waiting for?

Raktic is a world-class talent that has been one of La Liga's top performers for over half a decade now.

If Mourinho can pull this off, Man United would have a midfield pairing that is the envy of every English club and most European ones too.

With over 125 appearances for Barcelona over the last three years, it's not like Rakitic has been frozen out of Enrique's plans, but he is not the Barca boss' first choice in the biggest games.

Rakitic has the metronomic passing skill that can really dictate the tempo of a match, something that could bring out the best of Pogba.

If need be, he also has the versatility to play further forward in attacking midfield areas.

If Rakitic truly is on the mark as Don Balon claims then Man United would be crazy not to have a nibble.
