Sampdoria and Italy striker Manolo Gabbiadini

Zenit St Petersburg are planning a move for long-time Manchester United transfer target Manolo Gabbiadini, writes talkSPORT.

The 21-year old is currently playing for Sampdoria after spending last season on loan from Juventus to Bologna. This complicated arrangement is due to a 50-50 ownership deal Sampdoria agreed with the Turin outfit in 2013.

Now the Russian side are weighing up whether to splash the cash on the striker, as they look for backup for their hitmen Hulk and Aleksander Kerzhakov. Reports suggest that the move can take place as soon as the window opens in January.

Juventus are expected to be eager to agree a deal, as Gabbidiani has yet to appear for them. The question remains whether Sampdoria are ready to let a man who has scored two goals in seven outings this season leave. A potential transfer fee will range around £10million.

Manchester United are expected to be busy trying to lure wantaway Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski to Old Trafford, and Luciano Spalletti might find that he can bring the Italian to Russia without too much competition.
