David Moyes is set for a huge off-season in a few months’ time, with the Scot expected to be handed over £100m to rebuild his struggling Red Devils side.
A creative, ball playing midfielder is seen as a priority, and former West Brom passer Valero has emerged as a shock target.
Although Toni Kroos is believed to be United’s player of choice, a swoop for him is in doubt as he continues to discuss a new deal with Bayern Munich – who are keen to keep him.
As a result Moyes is looking at alternatives, and sees the 29-year-old as an option.
Valero struggled at The Hawthorns after his 2008 move to the Baggies, but flourished upon a return to his homeland with Villarreal.
He has since moved on to play for Fiorentina, where he has been a key player since 2012.
Juan Cuadrado is believed to be United’s major target at La Viola, but scouts from the club have also been impressed by the one-time Spain international.
Valero himself is likely to jump at the chance to switch to the Red Devils, where he could replace veteran midfielder Michael Carrick.
