Being the most successful club in the history of English football for much of the 20th century, Manchester United have been virtually synonymous with the England national team.
Bobby and Jack Charlton, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Paul Ince and Gary Neville are just a few examples of Three Lions stars who also plied their trade with the Red Devils.
But over the last few years, and especially the current campaign, that grip is beginning to loosen. Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Danny Welbeck and Phil Jones are dead certs for Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, but it’s unlikely Tom Cleverley, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young will be given a spot on the plane to Brazil.
