It seems that with every day that passes another member of Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands World Cup squad is linked with a move to join him at Old Trafford.

One name to have consistently been featured in the gossip columns is Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij, who is rumoured to be available for around £7m this summer. Van Gaal is known to be a fan of the 22-year-old after handing him his international debut in 2012, and links are circulating that he could be the third name to arrive at United under the new era.

Even with the potential addition of de Vrij there is still much surgery to be done on the Red Devils’ squad after a woeful 2013/14, and here are six more players we at FFC towers think may be next in line to sign on the dotted line…

Arturo Vidal

Arturo Vidal

While Alexis Sanchez grabbed the headlines for Chile at the World Cup, Vidal is widely seen as the man who made the South Americans tick – a massively impressive feat given the fact that he was not 100% fit. The Juventus midfielder is currently one of European football’s most highly-rated stars, and at 27 is at the peak of his powers.

United have been linked with him in recent weeks, with reports suggesting that the player himself is ready to consider offers from the Premier League giants if a fee can be agreed. Juve don’t want to sell, but offers of around £40m may be too good to refuse for the Turin side as they plot to land Sanchez from Barca.

Bruno Martins Indi

Bruno Martins Indi

One of de Vrij’s central defensive partners during the World Cup has been fellow Feyenoord enforcer Martins Indi. The powerful and uncompromising enforcer is highly rated in his homeland, and is another of van Gaal’s favourites.

A move away from Rotterdam appears likely for the 22-yearold, who is rumoured to be ready to test himself at the very highest level. With United in need of replacements for both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand with the veteran pairing having both left Old Trafford, Martins Indi is a realistic option.

He’s a bit scary, too…

Daryl Janmaat

Daryl Janmaat

No real shock here, another one of van Gaal’s Dutch set-up in the shape of Janmaat is also very much on the transfer agenda. The classy right-back has made three appearances for the Oranje during the World Cup, weighing in with one assist.

A key part of the Feyenoord backline of last season, he could slot in well alongside de Vrij and fellow target Martins Indi to provide United with some continuity in what is sure to be a big reshuffle in the coming months. His club are aware that selling is potentially their only option with Janmaat, who is now in the final year of his contract.

Here’s some footage of the fella to one of 2003’s big tunes!

William Carvalho

Ander Herrera has been drafted in to provide the artistry in United’s new look midfield, but in the current squad there are no genuine destroyers to slot in alongside the Spaniard. Carvalho has long been dubbed a target for the Red Devils, with the Portuguese youngster having been impressive for Sporting Lisbon for some time.

With a release clause of around £35m the starlet will not come cheap – especially with his employers waiting for the fabled number to be offered – but van Gaal has the cash to burn with an estimated £200m war chest at his disposal.

Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels

In a period devoid of genuine world class centre-backs (come on, who is there?) Hummels is one of the best around. The German enforcer is both able defensively and can play the ball from deep, making him of the very best options in his position available to United.

Dortmund are naturally looking to keep hold of their man, but van Gaal is thought to have earmarked him as the one to replace former captain Nemanja Vidic. With stars leaving BVB on an annual basis, Hummels may elect to follow suit amid talk that the Red Devils are to table a £20m bid.

Nicolas Gaitan

As if landing a top class wide attacker wasn’t tempting enough, a deal for Gaitan may result on Bebe leaving United. Double bubble. The Argentine was unfortunate to miss out on a spot in his nation’s World Cup squad this summer after helping Benfica to the Portuguese league title and a narrow loss in the Europa League Final with his composed displays.

The Lisbon giants are understood to want around £16m for their man, but United may negotiate the deal down by including Bebe, who is miraculously a wanted man at the Estadio da Luz following some decent displays during a loan stint with Pacos de Ferreira last season.
