Bearing an uncanny, albeit more muscular, resemblance in style to ginger maestro Paul Scholes and also  available for as little as £25million this summer, many were surprised to learn last week that incoming Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal had no plans to activate a deal reportedly already in place to sign Bayern Munich playmaker Toni Kroos.

But the Netherlands gaffer is famed for his often outspoken, always controversial views, and thus, it should be no great shock that he’s turned down one of the most promising young midfielders in world football.
