It's been a busy few days for Louis van Gaal and Manchester United. Having already announced the signing of Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera for £28.8 million, news broke on Friday that the Red Devils are set to secure the signature of Luke Shaw for a reported £30 million.

The arrival of the 18 year old at Old Trafford will finally bring months of media speculation to an end. The van Gaal era has exploded into life but more major signings are required if United are going to return to the summit of the Premier League next season.

Although there is the small matter of the Netherlands' progress in the World Cup to negotiate, the Dutchman will likely be spending his spare time in Brazil scouting his high profile targets.

Hererra and Shaw is just the start. Here's SIX more World Cup signings to follow the 18 year old to Old Trafford this summer.

ARTURO VIDAL

Arturo Vidal

Herrera may have arrived but United can't afford to think that one signing has solved their central midfield woes. Reports in several newspapers have suggested that the Red Devils are plotting a £30 million swoop for Juventus' Vidal.

An all-action midfielder, Vidal netted eleven times and collected five assists in Serie A this season. The Chilean also racked up eight yellow cards which indicates that the 27 year old isn't afraid to mix it physically.

A quick look at Twitter shows that a move for Vidal would be popularly received by the United fans and the midfielder would certainly add some much-needed quality in the Red Devils' engine room.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ

Alexis Sanchez, Chile

Another Chilean currently making big waves in Brazil, Sanchez is possibly the most sought-after property in European football right now. The forward has reportedly informed Barcelona of his desire to move and has put a number of Europe's elite sides on red alert.

Let's sum up what the 25 year old would bring to Old Trafford in three words; goals, goals, goals. In just twenty seven La Liga starts this season, Sanchez managed an incredible nineteen strikes for the Catalan giants, including this unbelievable effort against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

When compared to the current wide options of Nani, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, the signing of the Chilean appears a no-brainer. However, Sanchez will likely have a multitude of offers to ponder and United will have to work hard to convince the 25 year old that a move to Manchester is the best option.

TONI KROOS

Toni Kroos

A link that seems to have fallen flat in the last month, some would assume that the arrival of Herrera has put an end to any chance that United will move for Kroos. The German himself is reported to have said "there was a lot of speculation, but Manchester is and was not an issue."

However, the twenty four year old is still yet to agree a contract extension with Bayern Munich and with just a year left on his deal, the Bavarians could be tempted to cash in on one of their prized assets now.

If there is any chance that a player of Kroos' calibre is available and willing to move, United shouldn't hesitate to make the move. The signing may cause van Gaal some selection headaches on how to best incorporate all of his attacking talent, but surely this is a better scenario than having to rely on Tom Cleverley?

THOMAS VERMAELEN

A shock rumour that emerged in the last few weeks, there is heavy speculation linking the Arsenal defender with a controversial switch to the Red Devils. The Belgian has fallen behind Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the pecking order at the Emirates and the 28 year old could be tempted to move for more regular first team football.

With the departures of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, United are certainly in need of central defensive reinforcements. Doubts linger over the experience and calibre of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling and Vermaelen would certainly add some much needed experience in such a crucial area.

There have been suggestions that the Red Devils will attempt to thrash out a deal with their bitter rivals over the coming weeks. However, the news of United's interest in the Belgian has been met with a somewhat mixed response from the fans.

MATS HUMMELS

Mats Hummels

The popular choice to replace Ferdinand and Vidic, United have been linked with the classy German's signature for a number of seasons. Still only twenty five, Hummels has already acquired a wealth of experience at the highest level at Borussia Dortmund and would certainly be a welcome addition at Old Trafford.

The defender himself has played down talk of a transfer to United this summer but has admitted his attraction to a move "some day." Dortmund will certainly play hard-ball with one of their prized assets, but if the Red Devils are serious in their efforts to challenge for the Premier League next season, the German's name should be near the top of their shortlist.

MEMPHIS DEPAY

Memphis Depay

Labelled the Dutch "Cristiano Ronaldo", it would be safe to say that expectations of Depay are pretty high. The left winger enjoyed a prolific domestic campaign with PSV Eindhoven, netting twelve times and recording seven assists.

Van Gaal is reported to be a huge fan of the twenty year old, and the youngster likely endeared himself further to his international manager with this winner in the recent victory over Australia.

Tottenham have allegedly attempted to steal a march on their domestic rivals by submitting a £17 million bid for the youngster. However, if United offer the cash demanded, Van Gaal won't find it hard to convince the 20 year old to shun White Hart Lane for Old Trafford.
