Barcelona boss Tata Martino is reportedly in the market for a striker in the mould of Van Persie and is confident he could convince the Dutchman to leave the Premier League for Spain.
Spanish newspaper Sport recently reported that the La Liga giants would need to find at least £38million to tempt United into selling, while it has recently been claimed that the 30-year-old striker has handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford, although Reds manager David Moyes has denied any rumours that RVP is unhappy.
It remains to be seen whether Barcelona would be willing to pay the fee reported by Sport, but the current position in which United find themselves in the Premier League means a move away from Old Trafford cannot be ruled out for the Dutchman, particularly as he signed from Arsenal for the chance to win trophies.
The hitman has been in prolific form in the Premier League over the few years, finishing as the Division’s top scorer in each of the last two seasons.
Since his £22.5million move to United from Arsenal in 2012, he has netted 40 goals in 63 appearances in all competitions, including ten already this season.
Martino is also believed to be interested in Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and could make a move for the Argentine forward should his pursuit of van Persie prove unsuccessful.
