Few academies in England boast the fame of Manchester United's. It has produced some of England's only World Cup winners, endless top flight champions and perhaps most famously of all, David Beckham and company's Class of '92.In recent years, however, United's conveyor belt of young talent hasn't been quite so productive. Likewise, the appointment of Jose Mourinho over the summer has further exacerbated concerns that another generation of Red Devils-trained starlets will go to waste. But the Old Trafford outfit face bitter rivals Manchester City in the League Cup this evening and the competition is often used by managers to blood in young players - a strategy Sir Alex Ferguson used continually throughout his illustrious reign. With that in mind, we have been running the rule over three youngsters who deserve the chance to feature in tonight's Manchester Derby this evening, be it in the form of a starting berth or from the bench, to further enhance their experience at first team level...

Angel Gomes

Angel Gomes may be just 16 years of age but not a day goes by without Football FanCast receiving a glowing endorsement of the United academy star. He and the excellently-named DJ Buffonge have forged an incredible attacking partnership at youth level, but its Gomes who's being tipped as a future first-team star.

Nicky Butt's already tipped the teenager for the top and it's worth noting he's consistently played with older age groups throughout his youth career - first featuring for the U18s aged just 14. Admittedly, youth to senior football is still a massive step up, but a run out from the bench could do wonders for Gomes' development.

Jose Mourinho appears fond of Timothy Fosu-Mensah, electing not to send him out on loan like the majority of Red Devils youngsters, and he's certainly a Mourinho-esque player - physical, tactically astute and versatile - but has hardly seen the light of day this season.

Indeed, the Dutchman's only starts have come against Northampton and Zorya this term, so it's time the United boss let him loose against more challenging opposition.

Likewise, Antonio Valencia could do with a rest after starting every Premier League game so far and with Matteo Darmian seemingly out of the picture, Fosu-Mensah is the standout candidate to replace him.

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United v Manchester City - Premier League

Marcus Rashford may have received ample game time so far this season but he's not clocked up nearly enough minutes in the centre-forward role his future clearly resides in.

Indeed, Mourinho's had the 18-year-old putting in defensive shifts out wide and although that won't necessarily hamper his development, it's just not the same as getting chances to impress as the central striker.

We all know about the 18-year-old's natural ability in front of goal and with Zlatan Ibrahimovic struggling for form, United could really do with those poacher's instincts against Man City.
