Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that despite being at the top of the Premier League, the side have got to improve if they are to win the title.

United have only had the odd goal advantage in their last few wins in the league and Rooney is baffled that they are not doing better. Speaking to Sky Sports the striker said: “I can’t put my finger on why we are not killing teams off.

“We have scored plenty of goals. It is the most number we have scored at this stage of the season.

“We have conceded too many and have done throughout the season. But that is the way we have been set up to play. We have to just keep our scoring going.”

The Red Devils take on Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday, the team that beat them in the opening game of the season and they will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the table with three points against a side managed by the man many think will succeed Ferguson, David Moyes.

They’re currently 9 points clear at the top, but Rooney admits that every game is important as they do not want a repeat of last season, when they conceded an eight point lead in just 4 games to relinquish the title to local rivals Manchester City.

“Results are the most important thing now, we have to keep picking up the points when we can,” he added.
