Italian giants Napoli have made a surprise enquiry for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, according to reports from The Express.

The England international is rumoured to be eyeing a move away from Old Trafford this summer in search of regular playing time, and has been linked with Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton.

But now Napoli are also in the hunt, with rumours suggesting that they have approached United and the player to discuss a deal.

The Naples side’s sporting director Riccardo Bigon has asked to be kept up to date on the 23-year-old’s situation, and is believed to have probed to find out whether or not the goal-getter would be interested in Serie A life.

Rafa Bentiez’s side are understood to value him at around £10m, which is a figure somewhat lower than many outlets has suggested he may be worth.

Welbeck himself is believed to have grown angered at his distance from being a first-team regular at Old Trafford, which may be further increased this off-season with United eyeing a number of big name players.

Although a switch to Napoli would be a surprise one for the young forward, Napoli are hopeful that the lure of Champions League football may be enough to tempt him to take the plunge.
