According to Mirror Football, Newcastle are in transfer talks with Hertha Berlin over Bundesliga striking sensation Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

The 22-year-old produced sensational form on loan at Hamburg this season. His 13 goals in just 18 league starts not only steered HSV clear of relegation, but it also made the Germany U21 statistically the most potent front-man in the Bundesliga.

A return to the German capital appears unlikely however, with Lasogga's contract set to expire in summer 2015 and the 6 foot 2 front-man continually stating a desire to play in the Premier League.

The Magpies could certainly do with his old-fashioned firepower, now that Shola Ameobi has left the club and Loic Remy appears unlikely to make his successful loan stay permanent.

But following an incredibly turbulent campaign on Tyneside, it's unlikely Lasogga will be Alan Pardew's final signing of the summer. So, with that in mind, here's FIVE players who could soon join the German hotshot at St. James's.

BAFETIMBI GOMIS

...Pierre Michel-Lassoga isn't the only big'n'burley centre-forward the Magpies are chasing after this summer.

With his Lyon tenure finally coming to an end, the Tynesiders, along with two other Premier League clubs, have already tabled a contract offer to now-free agent Bafetimbi Gomis, according to Newcastle fan site TheMag.com.

The 28 year-old is powerful, aggressive and ferocious in the air, leading to the moniker 'Baby-boo Drogba' on the other side of the Channel. He's a dependable goalscorer too, with 62 goals in 172 league appearances for L'OM - including 14 strikes in Ligue 1 this season and this sterling effort against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League...

Recent speculation suggests Newcastle's offer is around the £80k per-week mark, but disputes over a signing-on fee could still scupper the deal.

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG

Another forward - and another target from summer 2013 - reported to have re-emerged on the St. James's radar is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, often dubbed 'the African Neymar' for his mixture of pace, trickery and technique, as shown in the above video.

The former St. Etienne assassin turned down a Newcastle switch last summer in favour of moving to Borussia Dortmund, and has since produced a respectable return of 16 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, including this stunning free-kick against Mainz...

But the 24-year-old is unsettled at Westfalen according to the Express - Matt Smith of ElasticoChop.com fame believes the Black-Yellows have informed the Gabon international he'll be allowed to leave this summer:

Rumours of a £6million release clause only makes Aubameyang a more enticing prospect, but the Magpies could face competition from Chelsea and Roma for his signature.

STEVEN CAULKER

According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the Toon outfit are currently weighing up a move for Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker. The Bluebirds may have finished the season at the bottom of the table with the second-worst goals conceded record in the division, but their inaugural Premier League campaign could have been all-the-more embarrassing without the 22 year-old's talismanic performances at centre-back.

He netted five times in 38 Premier League outings, all of which followed this rather predictable template...

It's believed the deal that brought the one-cap England international to south Wales from Tottenham last summer included an £8million release clause dependant on relegation, which the Magpies are now considering activating. But Caulker has been linked with a plethora of top flight clubs this summer, as documented on Twitter by this rather bemused fan...

REMY CABELLA

Newcastle's seemingly eternal battle with Montpellier president Louis Nicollin to sign club talisman Remy Cabella continues.

The outspoken Frenchman certainly knows how to play hard-ball, having turned down the Magpies' £8million approach for the attacking midfielder in January. The France international is seen as an ideal successor to Yohan Cabaye on Tyneside, in no small part due to a return of 14 goals and five assists in 37 Ligue 1 appearances this season, including this unbelievable solo effort...

The 24 year-old has announced his intentions to leave Stade de la Mosson this summer, but at the moment Newcastle's valuation for Cabella is significantly lower than his current employers'.

SIEM DE JONG

One popularly mooted Remy Cabella alternative the Magpies are reportedly considering is Ajax midfielder Siem de Jong - brother of January loan-flop Luuk de Jong, but hopefully considerably better.

The 25-year-old is an Ajax mainstay, with 78 goals in 244 appearances for the Amsterdam outfit, four Eredivisie titles under his belt and currently donning the captain's armband. Below is a collection of some of his best strikes in the Dutch top flight...

It's believed Newcastle have already approached Ajax regarding the Netherlands international's availability, as reported by Sky Sports News and @Football_Oranje...

And the tabloids rate De Jong at around £9million.
