Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that despite receiving mixed messages from his employers, he can tell that Mike Ashley is always dreaming big when it comes to transfers.

Pardew understands that his club can’t tackle the likes of Manchester City or Chelsea when it comes to budgets, but he also revealed that they will push as hard as possible to bring in the quality at a decent price as they have done with the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba.

“There have been times when Derek (Llambias) has said, ‘It’s out of the budget or it doesn’t work’.” Pardew told The Chronicle.

“But Mike has said ‘Do it’.

“Don’t think that might not happen again,” the former West Ham boss added.

“That’s my job to try to tease him in on signings. He knows that and what I’m trying to do all of the time.

“He tries to stay away from me but he can’t, I know where he is in Mansfield, it isn’t far!”
