Newcastle are ready to launch a move for Sevilla’s Colombian striker Carlos Bacca, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old was one of the stars of Spanish football last term, netting 21 goals in all competitions to help fire the Andalusians to Europa League glory in his debut season at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

His displays saw him voted as the signing of the season by newspaper Marca, and have prompted talk that big sides from across the continent are lurking.

Everton are one side to have been linked with the hard-working South American, but Newcastle are keen to beat them to his signature.

Bacca has been at the World Cup but a thigh injury has limited his playing time, which may serve to deter interest from clubs who could out-punch the Magpies.

Alan Pardew is known to be looking for a new striker with Loic Remy’s loan stint at St James’ Park having ended.

Bacca signed for Sevilla for just £5m last summer from Club Brugge, but his value is thought to have now swelled to around £15m.
