Cardiff City have offered Newcastle the chance to sign defender Steven Caulker, according to ChronicleLive.

The 22-year-old wants a move back to the Premier League after the Bluebirds’ relegation back to the Championship last season, but Cardiff are refusing to sell for any lower than his £8m relegation release clause.

And Newcastle have been offered the chance to move for the one-time England international, and Pardew is expected to give serious consideration to the possibility of bringing him to St. James’ Park this summer.

But it is believed a winger and a striker remain more of a priority for Pardew this summer and a move for a defender will depend solely on whether the club can offload flop Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Caulker is eager for a quick move away from the Cardiff City Stadium and has already started a summer training regime to ensure he is in the best possible shape ahead of pre-season training.

Crystal Palace, Swansea and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the defender in recent weeks, while it is also believed Tottenham could explore the possibility of bringing him back to White Hart Lane.
