Mehdi Abeid may look for a loan move in January, with the midfielder yet to make a Premier League appearance for Newcastle.

The midfielder was brought from former club Lens to Newcastle last year and has appeared during cup matches, and has made an impression with Newcastle’s under-21s.

However, Abeid is considering a loan spell at a Championship or Ligue 1 side with no Premier League appearances so far to speak of.

He said to sport.fr: “The coach asked me to stay until January before being loaned. The ideal would be to stay in England and find a club in the Championship but I would not be against the idea of going in Ligue 1.”

He has also made it clear that he is working hard to secure a first team place and that it is difficult to not be picked alongside them.

He said: “It is not easy to not play first team. But I tell myself that I’m in Newcastle, this is not just any club. I must work hard to earn a place and that’s what I try to do every day. I am often in the group, as the 19th man.”

However, he has talked of how he was received well by the team.

He said: “I was well received. The adaptation was easier with all the players who speak French. I am close to the other French players.”

It was claimed this September that the midfielder was set to be loaned. Sky Sports reported about how many Championship sides were apparently vying for his services.

The midfielder has started for Newcastle in the League Cup and FA Cup.
