Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is set to make history in the Europa League tonight, by starting both Ameobi brothers in his starting XI.

Shola Ameobi alongside his brother Sammy are being lined up to start together for the first time for Newcastle as the Magpies take on Club Brugge at St James’s Park this evening in a Group D Europa League match.

This is not the first time the Ameobi brothers will have played together; Sammy emerged on to the first team stage against Chelsea in May 2011.

But it will be another proud day for the family, especially if the Toon grab all 3 points. Shola went on to tell the Daily Mail: “‘My parents have mentioned it in the past, and I'm sure seeing both of us on the pitch at the same time will bring them tremendous pleasure. It's no different for me.”

The 30-year-old also is aware that this brother, 11 years his junior, will have felt the pressures of seeing him play for their boyhood club, but feels that Sammy knows exactly what’s expected of him.

He also revealed that the brothers now have a healthy relationship, despite fighting for the same first team places.

“We've got a great relationship now. I'm sure he's well aware of how hard it's going to be, and what he has to put in to make it to the very top,” he added.

The North East outfit are highly motivated for the fixture knowing that a win tonight will secure them seven points in the group and leave them within touching distance of the knock-out phases.
