Kicking off this list of Loic Remy alternatives is long-term Newcastle target Alfred Finnbogason, who has been continuously linked with the Tyneside club for the best part of a year.
The Iceland international has set the Eredivisie alight since joining Heerenveen in summer 2012, claiming the Bronze Boot award for his 24-goal haul last season.
That accolade looks set to be upgraded to gold this year however; the 25 year-old currently leads the Dutch top flight’s scoring charts with 23 goals in 25 league appearances. For all competitions, Finnbogason has produced a return of 53 goals in 62 outings for the Abe Lenstra outfit.
Netherlands legend and Superfriezen boss Marco Van Basten has been trying to tie down the 6 foot 1 striker to a new long-term contract.
But having continually rebuffed contract negotiations throughout the season, and furthermore publically protesting against the club’s refusal to sell him in January, it appears a summer departure for the Icelandic hitman is now inevitable.
It’s believed Finnbogason would come at a cost of around £8million, but the Magpies face stiff transfer competition from Celtic, Everton and a number of Serie A sides.
