It appears as though Arsene Wenger has finally pulled his finger out and opened his chequebook this summer, with Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy the man in line to replace his fellow Frenchman, Bacary Sagna, at Arsenal.

Having already seen Yohan Cabaye exit for PSG back in January, Debuchy is the next international moving on from Tyneside, and Alan Pardew will have to focus his efforts on replacing Debuchy this summer in order to prevent further uproar from the Newcastle support.

Pardew has already brought in three new faces this summer, and here are SIX more he could focus his efforts on in order to fill the void left by Debuchy’s departure.

Micah Richards

Richards’ career has stagnated quite badly over the past two or three seasons. The improvements Pablo Zabaleta has made since Man City became a superpower have seen Richards pushed aside, and the 26-year-old needs to get out to revive his England chances.

A few years back Richards was destined to become a regular England international, but he has drifted since City’s first Premier League title in 2012. He’s back fully fit, and still possesses the sheer strength and speed that make him such a devastating right-back. Newcastle should swoop in and save Richards’ floundering career.

Serge Aurier

Arsenal seem to have lost interest in the 21-year-old Ivorian, and Newcastle should take the chance to snap him up. Aurier enjoyed a fantastic campaign for Toulouse, and impressed in his three outings for the Ivory Coast in Brazil.

His physical presence would allow for swift adaptation to the Premier League, and the fact Newcastle already have Cheick Tiote should help ease him into English life. Aurier may be disappointed to miss out on a move to Arsenal, but he still looks set for a move to England, and Newcastle would be a suitable choice.

Daryl Janmaat

The Feyenoord right-back has impressed this summer for the Netherlands, and Newcastle are believed to have joined Tottenham and Manchester United in registering their interest in him.

If reports from Italy are to be believed, then Newcastle are actually incredibly close to announcing Janmaat as the successor to Debuchy. He is strong in the air, and possessed with bags of stamina. Janmaat appears to have the physical capabilities to cope with the speed of the Premier League, and Newcastle is his most likely destination.

Atsuto Uchida

Schalke’s Atsuto Uchida didn’t get a great deal of chance to shine in the World Cup. Following a very promising first half in which they took the lead against Ivory Coast, the Japanese showed little to suggest they had the quality to progress beyond the groups, and thus Uchida’s tournament was cut short.

However, he has proven credentials in the Champions League, and in the brief period where Japan dominated their opening fixture, Uchida was causing no end of problems with his willingness to storm the penalty area. He is energetic and very attack-minded. With a bit of time, a move to Newcastle could be beneficial for Uchida.

Ricardo van Rhijn

For a while it seemed as though Ricardo van Rhijn was the next permanent Dutch right-back, but he hasn’t represented his nation since 2013. The 23-year-old has been targeted by Everton and Chelsea in recent months, and now looks to be the focus of Newcastle.

Having just signed his Ajax teammate, Siem de Jong, along with also possessing Vurnon Anita, Newcastle have laid the foundations for van Rhijn to ease into life in England. He is pacey and has the ability to fill in centrally if needs be. Van Rhijn will be disappointed to have missed out on the Dutch World Cup squad, but exposure to higher level domestic football could allow him to continue making steps to improve.

Glen Johnson

You have to assume, especially after the catastrophic end to his season, that Glen Johnson’s Liverpool career is winding down. The England international struggled and has received his fair share of criticism this summer. With Brendan Rodgers bolstering all areas of his squad this transfer window, Johnson may have to make way for new recruits.

He still has undoubted quality, and a move to Newcastle would allow him to continue playing for a big club at the top level. Attacking-wise, Johnson still proves effective as he is able to use either his left or right foot. He has top level experience but needs a new start – something Pardew could present him with.
