Many a-Newcastle fan are still reeling in anger from the club’s decision to sell Yohan Cabaye (also known as Yohan Kebab) to PSG for £25million in the final days of the January transfer window. The after-effect has been the Magpies losing their last three Premier League fixtures – conceding 10 and not finding the scoresheet themselves – in the Frenchman’s absence.
But the last time Newcastle sold one of their flagship performers in the final days of the winter window – Andy Carroll’s infamous £35million move to Liverpool in January 2011 – the money was invested wisely, and the Tynesiders found themselves qualifying for Europe in the same season.
If Alan Pardew, working closely with chief scout Graham Carr, can pull off the same feat again, we could witness another stellar campaign from the St. James’ side next term.
