Premier league giants miss out on Swedish starlet

AZ Alkmaar have beaten three Premier League teams to sign starlet Zia Sakirovski, according to Sky Sports.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been linked with the teenage striker, but were turned away, along with Ajax, as Sakirovski favoured a move to AZ. He told the club’s website: “AZ is the right club for me at this stage of my career. I have visited clubs like Manchester City and Ajax, but AZ gave me the right feeling.

“Back in November I visited Alkmaar and we kept in touch. AZ is well known it’s a good club for Scandinavian talents. Rasmus Elm and Pontus Wernbloom have grown to a higher level here.”

When asked about the possibility of moving to England, Sakirovski suggested that he wasn’t ready for a move to the Premier League, and was focused on improving as a player: “A move to a top English team is not something I have thought about yet. In the Netherlands I will get the time to develop myself.”

The Swedish youngster visited England last year, but will now move to the Eredivisie, with AZ currently 7th in the table, 10 points behind 2nd placed PSV. AZ are preparing to face Benfica in the Europa League.
