The Saints left-back is believed to be a top target for the Premier League giants, who have both been impressed by his performances this term.
United are said to be ready to spend in excess of £20m to snap him up before the end of the week, while Chelsea are also in the race with rumours suggesting Jose Mourinho sees him as an ideal long-term successor to Ashley Cole.
However Ward-Prowse – who has also been in excellent form for Southampton this season – feels that Shaw is at the right club to develop and should stay:
“Obviously there is a little bit of banter flying around about the headlines, but that is just normal in football.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.
“His feet are on the ground, his head at the right place at the moment,
“He is settled, that is the main thing. You can see the fans love him as well, which is a good thing. This is the best club to be at at the moment.”
Shaw has been, arguably, the best young English player in the top flight this campaign, and is being tipped as an outsider to make Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions quad for the World Cup.
Although he is settled at St Mary’s Stadium, off-field uncertainty has urged United and Chelsea to consider moves in recent days.
