Jay Rodriguez has revealed that he is desperate for Southampton to keep their wantaway stars at St Mary’s Stadium for next season.
The Saints enjoyed a terrific 2013/14 campaign, but following Rickie Lambert’s move to Liverpool they look set to lose a host of other big names.
Captain Adam Lallana is thought to be keen to follow the striker to Anfield, as is centre-back Dejan Lovren, while Luke Shaw has been edging towards a mega money switch to Manchester United for some time.
As well as this trio, Morgan Schneiderlin has been linked with Arsenal and impressive 2013 summer signing Victor Wanyama is thought to be a target for Mauricio Pochettino – who recently left the South Coast club – at Tottenham.
Rodriguez – whose future has also been the subject of debate despite his injury woes – confessed that it may be difficult to keep all of the club’s first-team stars this summer, but that he is hoping that they will be able to do so:
“You don’t want to see players going and the team being taken apart.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“You can sometimes never stop it, it is one of those things so I’m trying not to think about it and hopefully we will have everyone at pre-season.”
