Southampton are planning a £2m summer move for Juventus front-man Fabio Quagliarella, according to reports from The Mirror.

The experienced 31-year-old is believed to be surplus to requirements in Turin after making just 16 appearances all season.

He is already behind a number of big name players in the pecking order, and his situation is only likely to get worse later this year with the Old Lady tracking more stars, such as Robin van Persie.

This has alerted Saints chief Mauricio Pochettino, who is planning for life without Dani Osvaldo.

The bad boy Italian striker – on loan at Juve – looks set to leave St Mary’s Stadium after a short spell at the club following a training ground bust-up with Jose Fonte.

Quagliarella is seen as a good replacement for the feisty forward, and the sort of player who can help Southampton press on and challenge for European qualification.

The former Italian international was linked with Arsenal last summer, and is rumoured to be ready to leave his current side in a bid to get his career back on track.

The ex-Napoli man has over 20 international caps to his name, and represented the Azzurri at the 2010 World Cup.
