Southampton are ready to put the misery of losing star name behind them with a move for Norwich’s Leroy Fer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Saints yesterday lost their fourth big name player in the shape of Dejan Lovren for £20m to Liverpool, where he has linked up with Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert.

Luke Shaw has also left to join Manchester United, while Morgan Schneiderlin, Callum Chambers and crocked forward Jay Rodriguez’s futures are all far from clear.

Graziano Pelle and Dusan Tadic have already been signed to freshen up new boss Ronald Koeman’s squad, and now the Dutchman wants his compatriot.

Fer was one of Norwich’s few bright sparks as their stay in the top tier came to an end last season, and he is expected to leave Carrow Road now his World Cup exploits have ended – he netted a goal for Holland in Brazil.

The 24-year-old is expected to cost somewhere between £5m-£8m, which Southampton can afford after generating over £70m from player sales.

QPR are also interested in the rangy midfielder, but the lure of working with Koeman may be enough to tempt him to reject the Londoners.
