Southampton are pondering a move for Lazio left-back Senad Lulic as their prospective deal for Marcos Rojo stalls, according to reports from Goal.

The Saints have been in talks with Sporting Lisbon for their highly-rated World Cup finalist in recent weeks, but a deal to make the Argentine Luke Shaw’s successor is understood to be on the ropes as third party ownership issues continue to drive his price up.

Although Ronald Koeman wants Rojo, he is ready to look elsewhere and has settled on Lulic as a target.

The Bosnian has been attracting attention from the likes of AC Milan and Juventus in recent times after performing well for Lazio last term.

Lulic is said to be keen on a switch to St Mary’s Stadium, making him a more viable option than Rojo – who is thought to be reluctant to join the South Coast outfit.

Although Ryan Bertrand has been drafted in as cover for the left-back role, the 28-year-old Serie A star is still an option as he can play in a more advanced position on the same flank and would offer more experience than the Chelsea man.
