Southampton are keen to use some of their new found wealth to snap up Burnley striker Danny Ings, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Saints look set to lose Adam Lallana as well as Luke Shaw in what has been a whirlwind 24 hours on the South Coast, having already sold Rickie Lambert to Liverpool prior to the World Cup.

Their captain is likely to complete a £25m switch to Anfield, while the teenage left-back’s move to the Red Devils is said to have cost around £30m.

With these key players gone, new manager Ronald Koeman is set to embark on a spending spree, with Ings a target.

Lambert’s absence leaves the Hampshire side light up front, with the experienced goal-getter having been a key man at the club for some time.

Ings fired 26 goals for Burnley last season to help earn them promotion to the Premier League, and is thought of as a top talent.

Although the Clarets have insisted that he will not be sold, Southampton are confident that £8m will be enough to get a deal done.

The 21-year-old has just over 12 months to run on his contract, which could tempt Burnley to cash in despite their immanent step up to the top tier.
