The 26-year-old, whose contract with Hannover expired after this season, has yet to officially sign with Stoke, but has passed a medical. That appears to still leave the door open for Wolfsburg, who are looking at a number of strikers to help upgrade their attacking options next term.
Woflsburg general manager Klaus Allofs told kicker-Sportmagazin: “Everything that has not become a done deal in time is actually absolutely not checked off from our point of view.”
Diouf had been with Hannover since 2012. He signed with Manchester United back in 2009 after making the move from Molde in the Norwegian League before being loaned back to Molde that year and then Blackburn from 2010-2011. He appeared in five matches with the Red Devils that year, scoring one goal.
Wolfsburg are also reportedly looking at Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku, Hertha Berlin’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, but it is clear that Diouf will remain their top target until he officially signs a contract with Stoke.
