The Reds have been in impressive form this season, and currently find themselves in shock contention for the Premier League title with just eight games to go.
A major factor in their rise has been the form of Luis Suarez, with the controversial forward having netted a simply staggering 28 goals in 25 league showings.
He has also weighed in with a further 11 assists, making him the division’s prime attacking threat.
Liverpool have spread their goals around between Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard, but Poyet feels that without the tricky forward the Merseysiders would be nowhere near their current position:
“You can compare him with the top players in the world because he makes the difference somehow.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.
“I am not surprised, that’s why Liverpool have got a chance, but without Suarez they would probably be in midtable.
“It’s not about how they play, how they defend, how they pass the ball, it’s about having a player who is going to be voted the best player of the year by everybody, if we are honest.”
Sunderland are in dyer need of a positive result against Liverpool, with the Black Cats currently entrenched in the bottom three after a tough campaign.
